We are pleased to announce we have an exciting opportunity here at Potens.

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant SENCO & Parent Liaison Officer to join our inclusive and forward-thinking school.

This dual role is central to ensuring our pupils with additional needs thrive, and that families feel supported, informed, and valued.

Working closely with the SENCO, you will help coordinate high quality provision for pupils with SEND and act as a vital link between home and school, fostering positive relationships and clear communications.

Arbour House is an independent school with split sites – Lower and Upper, based in Weymouth and Dorchester for young people aged 6-18 with complex social and communication difficulties and in particular autism. We provide a bespoke curriculum with a particular focus on developing independent living skills and real-life learning. We aim to support our pupils to achieve their full potential, contribute to their communities, gain meaningful employment, or progress to further education.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Assist the SENCO in implementing the school’s SEN Policy.
  • Support the identification and assessment of pupils with SEN.
  • Help triage SEN referrals and gather relevant evidence.
  • Contribute to the planning and evaluation of SEN provision across the school.
  • Support teachers and TAs to plan and deliver appropriate provision.
  • Assist with modelling inclusive classroom strategies and differentiation.
  • Share relevant SEND information with staff and contribute to in-house training.
  • Support communication with parents/carers regarding pupil outcomes and support plans.
  • Help maintain positive working relationships with external agencies (e.g., educational psychologists, therapists).
  • Assist the SENCO in preparing for EHCP Annual Reviews.
  • The post holder may be required to work across sites depending on school needs.

Who you are:

  • You will have a minimum of 1 year of experience teaching or supporting pupils with SEN.
  • Good understanding of SEND Code of Practice and inclusive practice.
  • Ability to analyse data and use it to inform planning and intervention.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with pupils, parents and professionals.
  • Commitment to improving outcomes for pupils with SEN.
  • Positive, proactive and solution-focused mindset.
