We are looking to recruit a Senior Underwriting Manager who will be reporting directly to our Head of Commercial Underwriting.

As our Senior Underwriting Manager you will be responsible for adhering to and enforcing the Society’s / Divisions standard credit processes together with all internal, regulatory, operational, compliance and credit systems and to ensure the integrity of data to facilitate the approval of new lending facilities and the production of robust management information for reporting to various stakeholders.

This is a key position within the Underwriting & wider Commercial Team covering a broad mix of duties to manage the risk profile of the lending book which includes  credit assessments on new and existing lending applications.

The successful applicant for this role will have:

  • Substantial experience in a commercial lending environment with a bias towards real estate lending and a core understanding of areas such as security, risk management and detailed understanding of the legal and regulatory environment.
  • Experience in producing and assimilating complex credit appraisals and be able to story board these effectively for dissection at subsequent committees facilitating decision making.

 

Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Interpret the fit of any new or existing lending situation within the risk appetite of the division.
  • Produce in-depth analytical reports on complex lending situations prior to sanctioning deals.
  • Dealing with post sanction issues including valuation approvals and revised conditionality, acting within agreed mandates.
  • Advocate continuous improvement – identifying and driving through changes to maximize efficiency and you will also steer in meeting various audit requirements.
  • Develop colleagues on Credit Assessment techniques and report writing through feedback, coaching and training

 

 

Skills we are looking for:

  • Sound understanding of the basic canons of lending
  • Ability to speak knowledgeably about all aspects of the property market and emerging UK economic conditions
  • Be compliant with divisional ethos, its policies and procedures
  • Experience in a commercial lending environment and an understanding of areas such as security / risk management.
  • Ability to negotiate, make decisions and problem solve
