As a result of our IT Platforms & Engineering Manager heading off on Family leave, we are seeking to appoint an Interim IT Platforms & Engineering Manager on a 6-month Fixed Term contract, to lead our Platforms & Engineering function and play a key role in transforming how we deliver technology across the Society.

As our Interim IT Platforms & Engineering Manager, you’ll be a key member of the IT Leadership team, responsible for the performance, development, and wellbeing of your engineering teams. Your primary focus will be on people management and delivery oversight — ensuring your teams are supported, engaged, and equipped to deliver high‑quality outcomes.

While you’ll collaborate with others on strategic direction and tooling decisions, this role more about leading people, managing workloads, and ensuring smooth, predictable delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • People Leadership: Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching and development for engineers. Build a positive culture, support wellbeing and ensure teams have what they need to thrive.
  • Delivery Management: Oversee delivery plans, team workloads, prioritisation and progress. Remove blockers and ensure teams can deliver effectively and on time.
  • Release Coordination: Ensure smooth and frequent software releases by supporting DevOps-aligned ways of working.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Maintain strong relationships across Change Delivery, Infrastructure and Service Operations. Communicate progress clearly and ensure alignment.
  • Environment & Platform Oversight: Work with technical specialists to maintain stable and reliable environments across on-prem and Azure workloads.
  • Problem Solving: Support teams in identifying and resolving issues to maintain system health and operational stability.
  • Security & Compliance: Work with relevant teams to ensure platforms and processes remain secure and compliant.

Technical Skills:

  • Understanding if cloud platforms and infrastructure.
  • Awareness of infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
  • Understanding of non-functional testing (NFT) categories.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to support continuous improvement and help teams work more effectively.

Previous experience:

  • Demonstratable experience in leading and developing technical teams.
  • Experience working within the Software Delivery Lifecycle.
  • Understanding of DevOps-aligned ways of working.

If you’re excited by the opportunity to lead a modern engineering function, empower a brilliant team, and deliver platforms and processes that enable exceptional software delivery, we’d love to hear from you.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive a high volume of applications.
