A rare opportunity within our Prudential Risk Function

We’re looking for a Credit Risk Analyst to join our team and play a key role in supporting the Society’s Second Line of Defence. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the critical evaluation of lending policies, the maintenance of credit risk measurement systems, and the delivery of insightful, forward-looking credit risk analysis.

You’ll provide accurate and timely information to external stakeholders — including regulators, ratings agencies and investors — while supporting the development, monitoring and maintenance of internal credit risk measurement models.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support the critical evaluation of lending policies and credit risk measurement systems through detailed analysis.
  • Produce management information to monitor lending exposures against risk appetite and policy, assessing the ongoing suitability of credit risk models.
  • Ensure analysis, models, and documentation meet required standards and are maintained in line with policy and procedure.
  • Stay informed on regulatory, market, and internal developments that could influence credit risk appetite or measurement systems.

Technical skills required:

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel (including producing and formatting charts and the ability to use formulas) Word and PowerPoint (producing clear and concise presentations using a mixture of quantitative and qualitative analysis tailored to the relevant audience)
  • Experience with SAS programming and data manipulation techniques is desirable but not essential (including accredited SAS training and practical application).

Previous Experience:

  • Practical experience in an analytical role within a lending environment (preferably secured lending), e.g. Underwriting.
  • Proven ability to conduct forward-looking analysis, interpret trends or building of monitoring packs

Key competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and interpret patterns and trends.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage and prioritise workloads effectively.
  • A team player with a collaborative approach
  • Adaptable in a fast paced environment
  • Having the initiative and being proactive to solve problems

If you’re not currently in a Credit Risk Role but have relevant experience, training is available to support your career development. This could include online SAS courses, internal SAS training, shadowing of senior analysts and one to one coaching with your line manager. All training will be tailored to help you develop in your key areas.

Our most important asset is our people. We value a healthy work-life balance and currently offer a 35-hour work week with our hybrid approach enabling you to have a mix of office days and remote working.

Your base location for this role will be our Head Office, Principality House, The Friary, Cardiff, CF10 3FA
