Head of Enterprise Risk (12m FTC)

Help shape how we understand, manage and respond to risk across the Society.

We’re looking for a Head of Enterprise Risk to lead our Enterprise Risk team and shape a clear, integrated view of the financial and non-financial risks that matter most to our members, colleagues and long-term plans. This is an influential second-line role with regular exposure to Executive and Board-level stakeholders, offering the opportunity to strengthen risk-informed decision-making across the Society.

You’ll own and continually develop our Enterprise Risk Management Framework, giving independent oversight, constructive challenge and practical advice across the three lines of defence. You’ll bring together insight from across our principal and secondary risk categories, including areas such as operational resilience, cyber, change and economic crime. The role is also designed to build succession strength for the Chief Risk Officer.

What you’ll be doing:

• Own and continually improve the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, risk taxonomy, enterprise risk register, risk appetite measures and key risk indicators.
• Provide independent, evidence-based oversight and constructive challenge of material financial and non-financial risks, controls and significant change activity.
• Translate complex risk information into clear, forward-looking insight and recommendations for senior leaders, the Executive Risk Committee and the Board Risk Committee.
• Lead the development of risk assessment approaches, including RCSAs, scenario analysis, stress testing and control-effectiveness reviews.
• Oversee operational resilience, including important business services, impact tolerances, scenario testing, vulnerability remediation and Board reporting.
• Support ICAAP, recovery planning, regulatory submissions and the Society’s response to relevant regulatory and industry developments.
• Build trusted relationships across the three lines of defence, strengthening risk ownership, consistent practice and timely escalation.
• Lead, support and develop the Enterprise Risk team, creating an inclusive environment of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Develop risk learning for colleagues and leaders, using insight and effectiveness measures to address capability gaps and strengthen risk culture.
• Maintain and enhance the Society’s governance, risk and compliance tools, reporting and supporting processes.

About you

You’ll bring senior-level experience in enterprise risk management within financial services, together with the judgement and credibility to influence complex decisions. We’re interested in the outcomes you have delivered and the perspective you can bring, rather than a single career path.

• Practical knowledge of enterprise risk frameworks, risk appetite, aggregation, RCSA, scenario analysis, key risk indicators and emerging-risk assessment.
• A sound understanding of the UK financial services regulatory environment, including PRA and FCA expectations, governance and effective second-line oversight.
• Experience presenting clear, balanced advice and challenge to Executive- and Board-level audiences.
• The ability to connect detailed specialist insight with an enterprise-wide view of risk, member outcomes and strategic priorities.
• Experience leading and developing multidisciplinary teams through change.
• Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to make complex information accessible and actionable.
• A collaborative approach to building trusted relationships while maintaining independence of thought and professional challenge.
