We’re looking for a Data Governance Consultant to help us improve how we define, manage and use our data across the organisation. This role plays a key part in ensuring our critical data is wellunderstood, high quality, and used responsibly to support business decisions, regulatory obligations and transformation activity.

You’ll work closely with data owners, data stewards, and change and IT teams, offering practical guidance and subjectmatter expertise across data governance, data quality and metadata management. This is a handson, collaborative role where you can make a real difference to how data supports the Society’s goals.

What you’ll be doing:

Data governance:

  • Working with data owners and change teams to define and document critical data
  • Supporting the embedding of clear data ownership and governance practices
  • Producing data governance metrics and insight to track progress and maturity

Data quality management:

  • Establishing and running data quality checks on critical data and processes
  • Monitoring, logging and reporting on data quality trends
  • Supporting data and process owners to resolve data quality issues
  • Carrying out data profiling to inform projects and business change

Metadata & Lineage:

  • Managing and improving the organisation’s metadata repository
  • Helping teams better understand the data estate through metadata and lineage
  • Identifying innovative ways to use metadata to support impact analysis, efficiency and change delivery

Consultancy & Advisory Support:

  • Providing advice to projects and teams impacting organisational data
  • Acting as a trusted subjectmatter expert in data governance, reference data and data quality tools
  • Ensuring change activity aligns with agreed standards, policies and regulatory expectations

What we’re looking for

You don’t need to tick every box to be successful in this role. We’re keen to hear from people who bring a mix of the following skills and experiences:

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Experience working in a data governance, data management or data quality role
  • A good understanding of data governance principles, frameworks and best practice (e.g. DAMA or similar)
  • Experience working with business stakeholders to define and document data or requirements
  • Exposure to metadata management, data lineage or data quality tooling such as Alation or similar

Technical Skills:

  • Confidence working with different types of data, such as customer, transactional, financial or reference data
  • Experience using data quality tools, data analysis or querying tools (e.g. SQL or similar)
  • An understanding of how data supports reporting, analytics and decisionmaking

Ways of Working:

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and identify patterns or issues
  • Clear, confident communication skills, with the ability to work across technical and nontechnical audiences
  • A practical, collaborative approach and a willingness to suggest and implement improvements

If you’re excited by the opportunity to make a positive impact through data, we encourage you to apply.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive a high volume of applications.
