What’s on offer:

Hourly Rate: £14.53 plus holiday pay calculated at 15.55% (equivalent of 35 days paid leave per year)

Duration: Fixed Term Contract starting in Term 3 2025 and working throughout the academic year 2025/2026 until 4th July 2026 (subject to a 26-week probationary period)

Hours: You will be expected to work an average of 2 shifts a week (an average of 10-12 hours a week) throughout term time; although we cannot guarantee these hours. Flexibility of working patterns from Monday to Sunday which includes daytime and evening work, general working hours between 2.45pm to 2am. Occasional vacation work available.

Location: Warwick Students’ Union, Coventry. Occasional off site working is required.

The successful candidate will have a professional attitude, be approachable and enjoy interacting with a diverse range of people from all backgrounds. They must have the ability to remain calm and collected whilst dealing with stressful situations and be able to resolve incidents in a safe manner.

Preferably having worked with students or young people, they will be self-motivated team players with excellent communication, thinking, reasoning and conflict-resolution skills. They must hold a current Security Industry Authority (SIA) Door Supervisor Licence.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Door Supervisor

RESPONSIBLE TO: Venue Manager and, through them, Operations Director, Head Door Supervisor, Chief Executive and The Board of Trustees

RESPONSIBLE FOR: None

MAIN PURPOSE FOR JOB: To ensure the safety of the members, guests and staff of the union and to uphold union policies and licences.

To respond to first aid situations ensuring the Students’ Union’s   duty of care to its staff and members is maintained

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To uphold and adhere to the security policy of the Students’ Union (SU).
  • To play an active role in maintaining order among those attending SU events through security patrols, body and bag searches and questioning of those involved in serious incidents.
  • To be carried out with the support of other Door Supervisors, Venue & Terrace Bar Manager, Outlet Leaders, Licensee and Event Co-ordinator.
  • To resolve and diffuse dispute/difficult situations by exercising the highest standards of customer care.
  • To refuse access to or remove anyone whose presence on the premises may render the Licensee subject to prosecution for any offence or who are in breach of the security policy.
  • To uphold and abide by the Equal Opportunities Policy of the SU
  • To protect the fabric and fittings of the SU
  • Ensuring the safety of acts in accordance with Students’ Union policy and their contracts.
  • To uphold and enforce laws and SU policies including smoking policy and the terms and conditions of the license.
  • To record in appropriate detail the circumstances of any incidents that occur, logging details of staff and patron witnesses.
  • To act as primary organisers/facilitators of the SU’s fire evacuation procedures
  • To ensure all Stewards are carrying out their duties as required.
  • To return the building/venue to the accepted standard of cleanliness after each SU event
  • To provide first aid cover to staff and customers. To do this as directed by the Venue & Terrace Bar Manager, Deputy Venue & Events Manager.
  • Any other duties, in line with the job description that may, from time to time, reasonably be required
  • To commit to reducing the SU’s environmental impact and promote environmental and ethical good practice.
  • Standards of behaviour and procedures for working arrangements are detailed in the departmental code of conduct.

EXPECTED STANDARDS

  • To behave in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
  • To communicate any relevant issues to the appropriate members of staff.
  • Door Supervisors should not endanger themselves whilst carrying out their job.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with licensing law and SU policy and procedure. Ensure that adequate resources are in place to prevent unnecessary harm to patrons or staff in this process. In accordance with our duty of care and with health and safety policy and legislation.
  • To ensure that drinking-up is completed within the appropriate period of time and that all other policies and laws are abided with on the premises.
  • All records to be accurate and up to date, completed promptly and in the correct format and in accordance with SU policy and procedure
  • To enforce the fire limits appropriate to the venue and event.
  • Removal of rubbish, wiping of tables, glass collecting. Other requirements as directed by the Venue & Terrace Bar Manager or designated Event Co-ordinator.
  • To be carried out in line with the SU’s environmental policy.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / QUALIFICATIONS

  • SIA Door Supervisor Licence
  • BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Door Supervisors (Licensed Premises) or equivalent.
  • Good organisational skills.
