Are you ready to kickstart your career in data and digital services? West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service is on the lookout for a curious, motivated and detail-loving Data Apprentice to join our dynamic Data Team.  

This is your chance to learn on the job, gain a recognised qualification and make a real impact in a life-saving organisation. You’ll work with experienced professionals, get hands-on with tools like Power BI and help turn raw data into powerful insights that drive smarter decisions.

Job Purpose: As a Data Apprentice, you’ll be diving into the world of data to help us make smarter, faster decisions that save lives. You’ll learn how to source, clean, analyse and present data that powers everything from frontline operations to strategic planning. Working alongside experienced data professionals, you’ll gain hands-on experience while studying towards a recognised qualification, building the skills you need for a future in data, tech or digital services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sourcing, formatting and analysing data from trusted sources.
  • Building dashboards and reports to tell compelling stories with data.
  • Supporting data quality and cleansing activities.
  • Learning about GDPR and ethical data use.
  • Collaborating with teams across the organisation.
  • Communicating findings to both techies and non-techies.  

Essential requirements:

  • GCSE Maths & English Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
  • Experience using Excel and Microsoft 365 tools
  • A keen eye for detail and a love of problem-solving
  • Willingness to work towards a Level 3 or 4 data qualification
  • Great communication skills, desire to learn and inquisitive mind  

We offer flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working. Whilst you will be required to work from our offices for parts of your initial training, after this you'll work both in the office and from home as part of our 'hybrid' working model. Therefore, applicants must have a reliable home internet connection.
