Watch Manager Operations Hub Secondment open to FF – WM (Internal Only)

WYFRS is seeking applications from Wholetime Operational Grey Book staff FF- WM interested in working on the National Operational Guidance (NOG) Project known as the Operations Hub.  

You will be part of a dedicated team, who will add value to the project by utilising your operational experience, attention to detail and drive in achieving the objective of the project which is to put all the information at the fingertips of those that use it most.  

The project is anticipated to take 2 years to complete, and you will work in a team of 3. There is 1 post available.  

We are looking for the ‘right person’ for the role, therefore, FF’s, CM’s and WM’s may apply for the position, please note, successful FF and/or CMs will receive an Additional Responsibility Allowance (ARA) to bring their pay in line with a development WM. WMs will receive their WM rate of pay.  

As part of the project, you will:  

  • Build up a new suite of operational guidance.
  • Produce ‘short hit’ incident guides known as Operational Information Notes.
  • Produce training packages that support the delivery of guidance.
  • Develop a better understanding of the risk management process.  

A role like this will give you hands on experience working with multiple stakeholders, exposure to working groups, and a new flexibility in your working pattern. You will be based at SDC (moving to New FSHQ in Feb 2025) with the option to undertake hybrid working in line with the objectives of the team.  

The implementation of the Operations Hub will benefit operational personnel by improving how they access operational guidance, training and supporting information. This one stop platform will enhance training and operational effectiveness.  

Individuals applying for the role(s) must:  

  • Be a wholetime substantive and competent Firefighter, Crew Manager or Watch Manager
  • Have no current/outstanding development action plans, performance improvement action plans or capability issues related to competency.
  • Be free of current formal disciplinary or performance improvement awards throughout the entire process.  

The successful candidates will be required to relinquish their current posting following a successful trial period of up to 12 weeks. 

You will not hold the rank substantively unless you have been through the promotion and development process, following the secondment you will revert to substantive rank.
