Camphill Village Trust established the Shared Lives West Midlands Scheme in March 2017. Soon after they were awarded the contract to deliver a Shared Lives service on behalf of Dudley MBC and are now in the process of recruiting dedicated carers right across the Black Country.
Shared Lives is a unique model of personalised support and accommodation, with a very strong track record of transforming lives, going back over many years. There are approximately 12,500 people currently being supported by 132 schemes throughout England.
Shared Lives Carers open up their home and support people with additional/complex needs, not only to be part of a family and to provide a sense of belonging, but also to create a life of opportunity, in which people otherwise wouldn’t have chance to experience. The aim of Shared Lives is to always support the person to develop the practical, social and emotional skills to make their own choices in life and be as independent as possible, whilst remaining at the heart of the community, just like you and me.

What we offer
We will provide you with relevant training, and once approved, on-going support to ensure that the highest quality of care is maintained throughout each Shared Lives Arrangement. The Assessment process will involve a number of stages to check your suitability and allow us to find out more about you and your family, along with your values and experience. We will use a combination of meetings, online training and professional discussions, before presenting to an independent panel. An Enhanced DBS Check and references are required.
Becoming a Shared Lives Carer with Camphill Village Trust, there is also the chance to take part in social events, celebrations and access existing resources, as well as connect to a wealth of support and friendships within our long-established Stourbridge Community.
This is a great opportunity for those people who want to develop a rewarding career within the adult social care sector. Shared Lives really does challenge the assumptions of what people who require extra support can achieve whilst living within the comfort of an ordinary home, but with extra-ordinary carers. If you are currently working in domiciliary or residential care, however, you are passionate about supporting people in the community, then Shared Lives could be for you.
You must be over 21 years of age but don’t need any qualifications or experience, just the right values, commitment and of course…..a spare bedroom. If you don’t own your own property, you will need to ask your landlord’s permission to use your home for a Shared Lives Arrangement.
