Athletics Coach
Co-curricular activities play a major role in pupils’ life at Canford and a wide variety of sports are played by pupils at various levels. It is extremely important that Sports Coaches are dedicated and committed to their chosen sport and are able to offer pupils their expertise in order for them to achieve success in sport at the level to match their capabilities.
OVERALL PURPOSE
The Athletics Coach is responsible for supporting the development and delivery of an effective Athletics coaching programme, working with athletes across the 13 – 18 age range (Shells to U6th). The Athletics Coach will potentially have responsibility for athletes and teams at Athletics meets, as well as assisting the development of athletes of all ages and standards, continuing to drive forward Canford’s Athletics provision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coaching Canford’s athletes throughout the Summer term in Track and Field disciplines.
2. Help support and develop the other Athletics staff, to ensure quality delivery throughout the Canford Athletics programme.
3. Plan and deliver inclusive, progressive and challenging Athletics sessions for individuals and groups of all abilities.
4. Attend specified competitions as agreed with the Head of Athletics.
5. Provide feedback to the pupils on strengths and areas for improvement.
6. Support with the promotion of fundamental movement skills within warm-ups
7. Communicate effectively within all areas of Canford life including pastoral, academic and co-curricular
8. Engage actively in continuous personal development and the development of Canford Sport.
9. Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
10. Any other duties that the Head of Athletics and/or the Director of Sport and Physical Wellbeing sees fit, providing that such duties are appropriate to the role.
Desirable Qualities:
1. Successful experience of coaching youth athletics within schools, clubs, or pathways
2. A UKCC / UK Athletics Coaching Award and/or an officiating qualification
3. A good level of current technical knowledge of the sport with a passion to develop further
4. The ability to plan, implement and adapt training sessions across a range of ages and abilities
5. Excellent communication, organisation and administrative skills
The Athletics Coach will be:
