Domestic Team Leader
OVERALL PURPOSE
The Team Leader will carry out their duties to ensure their team work cohesively and efficiently in all aspects of the housekeeping operation.
The Team Leader will also be responsible for communicating/liaising/supervising and mentoring all team members to ensure adequate staffing is available to meet operational requirements.
The Team Leader is to take direct responsibility for all housekeeping requirements during their shift and report to the Supervisors or housekeeping manager for emergencies or unplanned events.
As well as operating during term-time, the school also lets out the facilities for summer schools, weddings and other functions and the housekeeping team are required to continue to ensure cleaning standards are maintained outside of term-time.
Main Duties
Team leader
- To liaise with your nominated housekeeping supervisor prior to your weekend shift commencing
- To carry out cleaning tasks across site as delegated by your supervisor and be responsible for the day-to-day/weekend supervision, control, and monitoring of staff within designated areas.
- To report to your supervisor on any absenteeism, lost and found property, accidents, complaints, and loss of standards.
- In the event of sickness or absence, to proactively work to either identify a solution by using alternative staff or prioritise cleaning tasks to reduce impact on your designated areas.
- To assist in the collection and delivery of laundry to and from your designated area – if required.
- To ensure all staff within your team maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and a neat appearance.
- To deputise for your supervisor in his/her absence.
Health and safety
- To ensure designated areas are cleaned according to set work schedules and safe systems of work (SSOW) within the standards manual.
- Under the direction of your supervisor, be responsible for the control of stock, issue of cleaning chemicals and to keep all legislative documentation compliant.
- To be security conscious and ensure doors and windows are locked as required.
- To ensure compliance with all mandatory and legal requirements whilst on site to include Fire, Health and Safety, Manual Handling and COSHH.
- To attend training and development sessions as and when required.
- To assist in area related training and assist your supervisor with health & safety and competence training.
- Ensure that all equipment storage areas are left clean and tidy after each work session and that all manual and electrical equipment is clean, in sound working order and stored correctly.
- Report any defects of equipment, furniture, or buildings to your supervisor
- To assist in the carrying out of any safety checks, up-date PAT records and supervise the correct use of personal protection equipment (PPE).
HR
- To contribute and support your supervisor on annual appraisals using current appraisal system
- To conduct return to work interviews of staff following periods of sickness.
- To ensure that administrative tasks and paperwork are kept up to date.
- To assist your supervisor with staff interviews as required.
Other duties
- On rare occasion you may be requested to adjust your schedule of work. This could include working an occasional weekday or alternate weekends until you fulfil your contract terms and conditions
- To carry out any other reasonable request by the housekeeping management team.
Knowledge / Experience
- Recognised Housekeeping/Domestic cleaner Qualification – Level 2 or equivalent (D)
- Previous experience of cleaning in a multi-site environment (E)
- Experience of managing a team of staff (D)
- Good working knowledge of cleaning procedures, materials, health & safety and fire regulations (E)
- Understanding of child protection and safeguarding regulations (D)
- Excellent communication and organisational skills (E)
- High attention to detail (E)
- Good record keeping skills (E)
- ICT literate with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (D)
- Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team (E)
- Able to prioritise and delegate work (E)
