Working Hours: Working day 5 days out of 7 as dictated by the Sports Centre Rota. Early morning, late evenings and weekend working will be required.

Sports Centre Duty Manager

Overall Purpose

Working with the sports centre management team, manage the smooth running of the sports centre, ensuring all facilities are safe and services are provided in accordance with industry guidance and health and safety regulations. Assist in the development of the sports centre programmes, membership, and activity, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of services to pupils, members and school staff and parents. Motivate and manage the sports centre team, including staff development and appropriate staff training. Look for ways to develop sports centre income and implement efficiencies where possible.

Duties

General

The core purpose of the Duty Manager is to lead in the efficient and professional operation of the Sports Centre for all school users (including parents, staff and pupils, external users including club members and any other members of the general public who may use the facilities) and to support the Sports Centre Team, ensuring their role within the centre is varied and rewarding ensuring all policies and procedures are followed.  The sports Centre staff work closely with the teaching staff to ensure that the school’s games and physical education program needs are met and are also the face of Canford to many outside customers and guests of the school.

  • To be responsible for the sports centre, reporting to the Sports Centre Operations Manager.
  • To ensure all areas of the sports centre and activities taking place do so in a safe condition and in compliance with all operating procedures, updating and communicating policies and procedures when necessary.
  • To develop the health and fitness services at the centre to generate revenue and improve the student and member experience.
  • To deliver gym inductions, programmes and personal training.
  • To develop the gym induction and retention process to support growth of membership and use of the gym.
  • To ensure all gym equipment is maintained, clean and safe to use.
  • To update and develop the group fitness programme to ensure variation and high demand for classes.
  • To manage staff to deliver Pupil fitness programmes and inductions.
  • To lead on the rehab process for Buffalo and return sport programme for pupils.,
  • To effectively manage and motivate staff to promote a ‘can do’ culture of proactivity and professionalism and ensure staff training is up to date.
  • Reception duties as required
  • Administrative tasks as required
  • To provide lifeguard and gym cover as required.
  • To be responsible for the security of the building and equipment whilst on duty and respond to any emergency.
  • To manage the Sports Centre rota to ensure that the appropriate number of staff are on each shift.
  • To recruit and induct new staff to cover roles when needed.
  • To manage Annual leave and TOIL requests on MyCanford, ensuring staff are able to take correct holiday allowance.
  • To liaise directly with the Director of Sport and coaching/teaching staff to ensure that the facilities are available and set up for school use.
  • To deliver and record new pupil swim tests
  • To support the smooth running of our Swimming Academy
  • To undertake any other duties as required.

Knowledge / Experience

  • NPLQ (lifeguarding qualification)  (E)
  • NVQ Level 3 Supervision in Sports & Recreation  (D)
  • Level 3 Gym Instruction qualification  (D)
  • Pool Plant Operators Qualification (or working towards)  (D)
  • Fitness Class Instructors Qualification an advantage  (D)
  • Experience managing multi use sports facilities  (D)
