Fitness / Pilates Instructor
OVERALL PURPOSE
The purpose of a Fitness / Pilates Instructor is to lead, instruct, and motivate individuals to improve their physical health, strength, flexibility, and overall wellbeing through structured fitness and Pilates-based exercise. The role involves planning, choreographing, and delivering safe and effective group and individual sessions, while providing guidance, support, and encouragement to participants.
The instructor is responsible for ensuring a safe and welcoming environment at all times, offering appropriate modifications and advice based on individual needs and abilities. They may also be required to set up, maintain, and tidy equipment and facilities, as well as support sports centre members with advice and instruction related to fitness activities and programmes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, organise, and deliver safe, effective, and engaging group fitness and Pilates classes for Sports Centre members.
- Demonstrate exercises clearly and provide guidance to ensure participants exercise correctly and safely.
- Motivate and support members of all abilities, offering appropriate adaptations where required.
- Ensure the health and safety of all participants, with risk assessments in place and followed during all classes.
- Set up, organise, and maintain fitness equipment, ensuring it is safe, clean, and stored correctly after use.
- Liaise with and report to the Sports Centre Manager and their team regarding fitness classes, schedules, and any issues arising.
Knowledge / Experience
- Recognised Level 2 Fitness Qualification (E)
- Exercise to Music (E)
- Additional fitness class qualifications (D)
- Experience of delivering group fitness classes (E)
- Experience of delivering a variety of classes (E)
- Good Knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology (E)
- Good Knowledge of the class timetable and programming (E)
- To pre plan and motivate members through group exercise classes (E)
- To deliver a safe and effective class (E)
- Ensure member safety at all times. (E)
- Good team player. (E)
- Ability to set up independently for classes (E)
