Casual Swimming Teacher

Overall Purpose

The role of the Swimming teacher is to deliver the Canford Swim Academy lessons in a fun and professional manner, while also adhering to the guidelines set by the STA International Learn to Swim Program. The position will support the sports centre manager and swim academy coordinator in growing the programme and facilitating the progression of all swimmers.

The swim teacher will record individual swimmers learning outcomes, delivering and managing 30 minutes swim lessons for small groups of children.

Duties

Key Responsibilities – Swimming Teacher

  • To provide members/customers with a fantastic swimming experience.
  • To deliver high quality swimming lessons for small groups and individuals in accordance with STA guidelines and duty of care.
  • To be a role model to motivate children to develop their swimming ability and enjoyment within the water
  • To guide and teach learners through the outcomes listed in the STA International Learn to Swim Program.
  • To assess swimmers’ abilities and give regular and accurate feedback.
  • To maintain up to date records of swimmers’ performance and development.
  • To support the sports centre manager and swim academy coordinator with the administration and registration of swimmer attendance.
  • Helping to ensure swimmer records are kept up to date.
  • To ensure all NOP’s and EAP’s are followed as required.
  • Facilitate the safety and safeguarding of all swimming lesson pupils within the structured sessions.
  • To attend training staff training and meetings as and when necessary.
  • To assist in attracting new and retaining existing customers.

Compliance (including H&S)

  • Attend all required training relating to Health and Safety legislation. To be support Health & Safety matters relating to the sports centre, staff and facilities ensuring that incidents are reported accurately and within stipulated timescales.
  • Attend and complete all necessary safeguarding training as directed by the School.
  • To assist with all Fire and Evacuation procedures.
  • Ensure that all personal information retained is held in compliance with the School’s Privacy notices and GDPR legislation.

Knowledge / Experience

  • ASA/STA Level 2 Swimming Teacher Qualification  (E)
  • National Pool Lifeguard Qualification or National Rescue Award  (D)
  • Previous experience of teaching swimming  (E)
  • Keen interest in swimming  (E)
  • Experience of working with children  (E)
  • Background in swimming  (D)
  • Excellent customer care skills  (E)
  • Hard worker  (E)
