Late Duty Press Officer

The Conservative Campaign Headquarters are seeking a proactive and political Late Duty Press Officer to provide essential press office support during late hours. This role is critical in ensuring effective media management, rapid response to emerging news stories, and consistent delivery of the Conservative Party’s message across all platforms.

The successful candidate will work to generate positive media coverage, manage press enquiries, and mitigate negative stories. They will maintain clear and professional communication with journalists, press officers, and senior staff, while supporting the wider press office team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed media summaries for Conservative MPs, Shadow Cabinet Ministers, and CCHQ staff.
  • Respond to media enquiries promptly and professionally.
  • Transcribe political interviews with accuracy and speed.
  • Draft engaging social media content and identify political opportunities.
  • Support general press office duties and administrative tasks.
  • Manage temporary staff, including overseeing workstreams, timesheets, and rotas.

Additional Duties

  • Assist with ad-hoc projects as required by the team and the Party.
  • Provide holiday and weekend cover in line with team schedules.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ensure any professional qualifications remain up to date.

  • Excellent written and transcription skills.
  • Strong organisational and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficient IT skills.
  • Sound political judgement and awareness of current affairs.
  • Ability to work independently during out-of-hours shifts.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to develop and implement new initiatives.
  • Commitment to the Conservative Party and its programme of Renewal.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Prior political experience is not essential, but a strong understanding of current affairs is required.
