Hours of Work: 14 hours per week, preferably across Tuesdays and Wednesdays

About the role

We are looking to appoint a skilled and experienced Digital Lab Technician to join us in the 3D studies programme area within the School of Visuals Arts. You’ll be a key contributor to our thriving School of Visual Arts, where you will provide technical support to students and tutors in the Digital and Design programme area, including rapid prototyping, laser cutting, CAD, illustration, graphics, interior and garden design, film and animation, and courses within Visual Arts Advanced Practice area over multiple studios. You will take responsibility for room upkeep, equipment and software maintenance as well as taking a leading role in the manufacturing lifecycle of produced work, using available resources and making suggestions as to their improvement based on your expertise.

To be considered, please submit your CV and a covering letter, detailing your skills and experience. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A 3D design qualification or equivalent experience, and an awareness of 3D design principles, creative problem solving and intellectual flexibility.
  • Recent experience working as a technician (or equivalent) in a digital and/or graphic studio environment including setting up, running and using 3D printers, laser cutters, mac laptops and their peripherals including cameras, and all associated software.
  • Working knowledge of the latest versions of Adobe Premiere and Adobe Creative Cloud. Experience of file preparation for 3D printers and laser cutters, monitoring and troubleshooting, and post-production clean up.
  • Experience of managing an organised workplace and keeping on top of equipment and materials.
  • General networking experience (including Wi-Fi and Ethernet setup) and troubleshooting experience with both Mac and PC platforms.
  • Familiarity with design software including Rhino and CAD is desirable.
