Engineering Group Leader

We are recruiting an Engineering Maintenance Shift Manager for our Engineering team at our site in Runcorn, Cheshire. With major investment underway to expand and upgrade our cabinet and panel manufacturing operations, it’s a great time to come on board and be part of our exciting growth journey.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling maintenance and engineering activities throughout manufacturing to ensure asset performance, reliability, and quality are guaranteed and improved.

As a confident leader, you will lead a team of engineering colleagues and indirectly the maintenance activities of operators in the delivery of world-class asset care with the highest standards of safety. 

Shift Pattern:

  • 40 hours per week (2 days and 2 nights (4 on / 4 off)

What will you be doing as an Engineering Group Leader: 

  • Supports and leads as directed the implementation of world-class maintenance methods.
  • Leads Route Cause Analysis for reliability and quality improvement.
  • Leads practical problem-solving to minimise downtime with team members.
  • Co-ordinate’s complex fault finding and escalates additional support requirements where required.
  • Develops PM work orders and schedules for assets in CMMS.
  • Develops calibration standards for critical assets.
  • Responsible for Improving maintenance and asset KPI's as defined by the maintenance manager.
  • Leads critical spares analysis for assets as allocated by the maintenance manager.
  • Maintains spares and improves life cycle of components.
  • Undertakes design out activities with members of their team.
  • The job holder will be responsible for planning and allocating work for the maintenance team and ensuring work is completed to a high standard by their team.
  • Ensures maintenance interventions on critical assets are bought off.
  • Ensures man hours are recorded for maintenance work.
  • Undertake 1:2:1's with team members to identify training needs and develop behaviours aligned to Howdens mission statement and culture.
  • Coordinate and Undertake equipment Risk Assessments and SOP's.
  • Lead the use of dynamic risk assessments within the maintenance team.
  • Deputise for the maintenance manager out of hours to ensure planned and unplanned activities are conducted safely.
  • Identifies and implements safe working practices.
  • Identifies and implements risk reduction on equipment.
  • Ensure statutory maintenance work orders are completed on time and feedback in CMMS.
  • Manages and coordinates contractor activities through PTW's.

What do we need to qualify for the Engineering Group Leader:

  • Formal Health and Safety qualification 
  • CIEH Level 3 Health & Safety
  • NEBOSH general Certificate (preferred)
  • HNC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering 
  • Continuous Improvement experience 
  • Supervisory experience
