About the opportunity:

We are seeking a senior leader to join our team as a Business Development Director, leading the next phase of growth and shaping our position across major rail and infrastructure opportunities.

This newly created leadership role will drive NRC’s business development strategy across our core service areas, including:

  • Rail Operations;
  • Asset Management & Maintenance;
  • Systems Integration & Technical Services;
  • Project & Program Management; and
  • Advisory & Strategic Planning.

As the face of NRC to our largest clients and strategic partners, you will:

  • Shape and lead NRC’s growth strategy, driving business development from early positioning through to successful contract award;
  • Provide strategic oversight and direction to the leadership team and seller community, ensuring alignment with NRC’s long-term objectives and growth ambitions;
  • Identify high-value opportunities in current and new markets and develop key C-suite relationships with strategic clients and partners to maximise NRC’s win rate;
  • Partner with the Regional Director to steer the development of the Australian business, leading the annual marketing and communications strategy and securing strategic bids aligned with our 2030 Strategic Business Plan;
  • Act as a key advocate for NRC, representing the organisation at industry forums, conferences and events to enhance our profile and influence;
  • Lead and win major strategic bids, ensuring NRC is positioned as the partner of choice for complex, high-value projects;
  • Inspire, mentor and develop senior leaders, fostering a high-performance culture and building capability across Business Sector Directors, Service Line Directors and Bid Management teams; and
  • Act as Project Director on critical consultancy engagements, ensuring delivery excellence and achievement of individual and team billability targets.

Experience & Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Extensive business development leadership experience within professional services or consulting;
  • Deep knowledge of the Australian rail market and a strong network of C-suite relationships;
  • Proven track record of winning multi-million-dollar bids and consistently achieving growth targets;
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and influencing skills across all organisational levels;
  • Proficiency in CRM platforms (Salesforce or equivalent) and ability to leverage sales analytics for strategic decision-making;
  • Demonstrated resilience, entrepreneurial mindset and ability to perform under pressure; and
  • High emotional intelligence to navigate complex stakeholder dynamics and build trust.

Desirable:

  • First degree in a relevant discipline; postgraduate qualification (MBA or equivalent) highly regarded;
  • Professional certifications in sales, marketing or project management; and
  • Active membership in industry or professional bodies.
