About the opportunity:

Building on our continued success and growth, we are currently hiring for an experienced Systems Engineering professional to join our team as an Associate Director – Systems Engineering & Systems Integration based in Sydney.

You will play a lead role in the development of capability and delivery of Systems Engineering & Systems Integration Consulting Services within New South Wales and other states as required.  The role will entail the creation and management of interdisciplinary systems engineering approaches for Railway Programs and providing technical and project delivery expertise as part of a Systems Engineering and/or Systems Integration team.

What you will be involved in:

  • Apply systems engineering and integration practices to complex, safety-critical, socio-technical systems in the rail signalling, train control and traffic management domains.
  • Identify existing and emerging signalling technology for consideration in the development of technical strategies and solutions to meet client needs.
  • Exhibit a detailed understanding of all stages of the Systems Engineering V-lifecycle, including the establishment of System Engineering frameworks for new projects, the definition of high-level user and technical requirements, referencing to key documentation such as Operational Concepts or key transport strategies.
  • Use appropriate Systems Engineering toolsets to support delivery across all aspects of the Systems Engineering V-lifecycle and cross-cutting activities, including the management of requirements, system architecture, design, standards, interfaces, V&V, change, risks and issues.
  • Develop and review technical documentation to ensure quality remains high and comply with governance and assurance requirements, and relevant standards.
  • Troubleshoot systems issues as required, working collaboratively to achieve resolutions ensuring solutions meet the needs of the customer.
  • Support develop and grow the business in all areas, by assisting teams in the tender and sales activities, identifying opportunities for new or follow-on work, following up leads in areas of expertise and fostering good relationships with clients and potential clients.

Experience & Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Systems engineer with extensive experience in System Engineering and/or Systems Integration in complex digital signalling projects.
  • Relevant degree level engineering qualification.
  • Experience interpreting and applying relevant standards in engineering delivery projects (e.g., AS 15288 and EN 50126).
  • Affiliation with recognised professional body e.g. Engineers Australia or SESA (INCOSE).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

Desirable:

  • Detailed technical knowledge of contemporary rail signalling systems (including ETCS and CBTC digital signalling systems).
  • Demonstrable leadership and people management skills.
  • Independently recognised as an expert in their field e.g. CEng, CSEP, etc.
  • Knowledge of Systems & Safety Assurance.
  • Knowledge of requirements from broader Systems Engineering disciplines (such as Human Factors, and RAM).
  • Experience in application of Systems Engineering Tools such as DOORS Next Generation..
  • Experience in building and/or administering systems architectures including definition, management and control of interfaces.
  • Prior experience of Model Based Systems Engineering and associated tools.
