About the opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Licensed Signal Engineer (Field ADI01) with demonstrated expertise in European Train Control Systems (ETCS) to join our Sydney team as a Commissioning Engineer, supporting the transformative Digital Systems Program (DSP) with Transport for NSW (TfNSW).
In this senior role, you will work closely with the Commissioning Manager to coordinate and manage the delivery of commissioning activities across ETCS, TMS, DTRS, FTN and associated systems for DSP. You will ensure the effective planning and execution of systems commissioning and integration works, while actively monitoring delivery performance to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety, quality and productivity.
You will apply your technical expertise within a consultancy environment, providing expert support in diagnosing and resolving testing and commissioning issues as required by the Commissioning Manager. In this role, you will lead and influence internal teams and a diverse range of client stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of DSP commissioning outcomes.
Key Accountabilities:
Work with the Digital Systems Level 1 Management Team to deliver the System Integrator Program in line with TfNSW requirements.
Perform duties as the Commissioning Engineer in accordance with TS 05310 for the inspection, testing and commissioning of new or altered signalling.
Review and monitor ETCS commissioning practices to drive improvements in safety, quality, productivity, processes, and procedures.
Ensure ETCS Test and Commissioning Plans are developed and implemented for all ETCS areas.
Work with DSP contractors and project teams to develop detailed scopes that support the planning and scheduling of signalling commissioning activities.
Oversee all documentation required for DSP commissioning events, including SIT Test Plans for simulation and trackside testing, ensuring compliance with Sydney Trains and TfNSW standards.
Ensure the TAO process is applied correctly for the signoff of key System Integrator documents.
Support best practice signalling documentation management for the DSP project, including first of type ETCS Level 2 application within the Sydney Trains network.
Support organisational and cultural change across stakeholders to enable the adoption of ETCS testing methodologies and DSP project outcomes.
About You
Essential Experience & Qualifications
Licensed Signal Engineer (Field ADI01), currently authorised to practice under Sydney Trains MN S 41412, with proven experience as a Commissioning Engineer on major signalling projects involving new or emerging technologies.
Strong understanding of rail operations to support the development and delivery of signalling commissioning work packages and interface management plans.
Demonstrated experience in discharging the planning and delivery accountabilities for major rail or signalling projects.
Understanding of organisational objectives, project management frameworks, and governance requirements.
Relevant academic and professional qualifications.
Significant experience in signalling projects – ideally involving new or novel technology.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable
Membership of a relevant professional engineering body.
Experience supporting the development, commissioning, or entry‑into‑service phases of new rail infrastructure.
Knowledge or experience of the Australian rail industry.
Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartered accreditation.
