About the opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager with demonstrated experience in delivering Traffic Management Systems (TMS) or equivalent control systems on railway signalling projects to join our growing Sydney team. This role will support the transformative Digital Systems Program (DSP) with Transport for NSW (TfNSW).
You will lead the TMS engineering team and work directly with the technology supplier to deliver specifications, manage variations, and secure required approvals. You will provide leadership to the technical TMS SMEs, ensuring all TMS work activities within DSP meet business objectives by owning key functional deliverables and managing interfaces to achieve critical project milestones.
Key Accountabilities
· Manage TMS work activities, owning functional deliverables and interfaces to meet key project milestones and performance targets.
· Provide leadership to the technical TMS SMEs and work closely with client project delivery teams.
· Provide stakeholders with accurate, up‑to‑date reporting on the TMS delivery schedule.
· Oversee the integration of the TMS with Sydney Trains’ existing business systems.
· Lead SMEs in providing expert advice and interpretation of technical requirements to ensure compliance with legislation, system design, national and international standards, and industry best practice.
· Ensure suitable technical SME expertise is available to support the implementation of operational specifications, policies and procedures that enable efficient, effective and safe working.
· Ensure all technical TMS deliverables are completed to the required standard and in accordance with the programme schedule.
· Plan and deliver support services to other discipline delivery teams.
· Collaborate with the wider TfNSW team and stakeholders to deliver an integrated solution that meets the client’s requirements.
About You
Essential Experience & Qualifications
· Demonstrated experience in delivering TMS or equivalent control systems on railway signalling projects.
· Strong background in engineering management within signalling projects, including leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
· Proven experience delivering rail projects to successful completion, on time and within budget.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
· Strong attention to detail, particularly when listening to and accurately capturing stakeholder inputs and perspectives.
· Well‑developed report‑writing skills.
· Ability to prioritise work effectively and deliver to tight deadlines in a high‑pressure
Desirable
· Knowledge of one or more of the following disciplines: ETCS Trackside, ETCS Onboard, Fixed Telecoms, or Digital Train Radio Systems.
· Project management certification or demonstrated project management experience.
· Working towards chartered or incorporated engineering status.
· Membership of a relevant professional body.
· Experience in the development and entry‑into‑service phases of new rail infrastructure.
· Knowledge and/or experience of working within the Australian rail industry.
