Voluntary Position

If you are looking for a rewarding opportunity and to volunteer within an epic team that will help you grow and thrive, then you have come to the right place. Volunteering within our North Ayrshire Peers4Hope service you can start your day knowing what you do really does make a difference!

We are looking to expand our team with volunteers who can add real value to the work that we do. With passion, and compassion, you will bring authenticity and positivity as you support people on their recovery journey.

Our monthly drop-in is a person-centred, recovery-focused space open to anyone living with mental ill health. People can come along to learn more about our services, take part in group work activities, receive signposting and information about local support, and simply have a safe space to be around peers. The drop-in is particularly aimed at people who are currently on waiting lists for our services, helping them to stay connected, supported, and part of a wider community while they wait.

As a volunteer, you will support our staff to deliver the drop-in, offering a warm welcome and reassuring presence to attendees. You’ll help create an environment where people feel listened to, valued, and understood, and where they can receive meaningful peer support. The Drop-In takes place on the first Wednesday of every month. This is an in-person role based locally. All volunteers will receive training and onboarding before starting their volunteering.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer volunteering opportunities to those currently being supported by Penumbra or are on the waiting list. However, we are particularly interested in volunteers who have past lived experience of mental ill health and can share and model their own experience of recovery and hope.

We welcome applications from black and minority ethnic, LGBT+, people with disabilities and any other historically marginalised communities.

As a mental health charity, we really value the wellbeing of our colleagues. That’s why we want you to know that you’ll be joining a friendly team, who will give you a supportive environment to help you thrive in your role, including all the training you need to feel confident and equipped.

Volunteering with Penumbra, we can promise you’ll be inspired by some pretty amazing humans every single day. We want you to grow and thrive! We will support you on your own individual volunteering path, helping you to gain experience and develop new skills.
