The Percy Hedley Foundation has three main sites providing specialist education, adult day services and residential care to our service users. Our sites are based in Forest Hall, Killingworth, and Jesmond.   

About the Role

Are you a compassionate, experienced nurse looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young adults with learning and physical disabilities? We are seeking a dynamic Nurse to join our multidisciplinary team at Hedleys College.

In this rewarding role, you’ll take the lead in promoting the health, medical management, and wellbeing of our students, aged 16–25, many of whom have complex health needs. Working closely with education staff, therapists, families, and external healthcare professionals, you’ll ensure a holistic and person-centred approach to student care. With regular opportunities for CPD and clinical supervision, the successful applicant will join the existing nursing team within the educational services in our Foundation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on the development and implementation of individual health care plans, risk assessments, and emergency protocols.
  • Administer and oversee medication, including staff training and supervision for delegated clinical tasks.
  • Support with complex medical needs such as gastrostomy care, epilepsy management, catheterisation, tracheostomies.
  • Act as a clinical advisor to education staff, ensuring safe, inclusive practice and ongoing health education.
  • Liaise with families and multi-agency partners including GPs, community nurses, and allied health professionals.
  • Support safeguarding procedures and contribute to EHCP reviews and transition planning.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive approach to health and wellbeing across the college.

About You

  • Registered Nurse (RNLD, RGN) with current NMC registration.
  • Experience working with young people or adults with learning disabilities and/or complex health needs.
  • Strong clinical skills and confident in decision-making and managing risk.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
  • Passionate about person-centred care and inclusive education.
