What is the role?

We are looking to recruit a Strategic Planner to join the North West and Lancashire Strategic Land Team. This role reports to Senior Strategic Land Manager and will have contact with Planning Consultants, Local Authorities, Local Planning Officers and members of the public.

The purpose of the role is to primarily required to carry out planning and development appraisals, prepare and submit outline and full planning applications, and lead land promotion within the residential sector for both immediate and strategic sites.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the identification of short, medium and long term strategic sites for acquisition, including strategic planning searches for new land opportunities
  • Potential to grow and develop in to a strategic land acquisition role
  • Producing new site appraisals for short, medium and long term strategic sites to align with terms for securing and promoting new strategic land
  • Monitoring of development plan progress, 5 year housing land requirements and grey belt opportunities within each Local Planning Authority
  • Formulating planning strategies to promote short, medium and long term development sites through the plan-making process under the guidance of the Senior Strategic Land Manager to continue a pipeline of new sites for the region
  • Prepare and project manage planning applications, development statements and representations to secure planning permissions and allocations, and helping to integrate and handover sites over for the delivery of new homes.
  • Liaise and brief internal layout designers, land and technical colleagues, and external consultants and officers at Local Planning Authorities prior, during and post submission and promotion in order to develop strong working relationships
  • Manage preparation of Planning Case Statements, Design & Access Statements and a range of other planning documents required to support applications and promotion of sites accurately and on time so the business can continue to gain positive planning consents
  • Organise supporting information and attend required stakeholder/public consultation events with professionalism at all times to build confidence with the general public
  • On occasion to deputise for the Senior Strategic Land Manager to provide support and assistance to the team.

What experience do I need?

  • Previous experience working in the private or public sector in the field of planning policy / Local Plan / strategic land
  • Degree / Masters Planning Degree with an RTPI accreditation and a rounded knowledge of planning
  • Ability to adapt to change and to work accurately and efficiently under pressure
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence
