What is the role?
We are excited to be recruiting for an External Affairs Manager to join the External Affairs Team. This role reports to the Head of External Affairs (North) but you will work closely with the local Managing Directors.
The purpose of the role is to support the delivery of an external affairs strategy across our 6 operating businesses in the Yorks & North East division. This will involve managing and sometimes leading on local stakeholder engagement and press activity while working closely with the Head of External Affairs, local Managing Directors and other senior management.
To be based in one of our three North East offices – in either Newcastle, Durham or Teesside.
Regular Travel will be required across both the three areas above, plus three further office regions in Leeds, York (head office) and Mansfield.
The role will be a mix of office based, travel across the regions above, plus working from home.
The role will include:
- Supporting planning applications through a proactive stakeholder engagement programme and accompanying press activity.
- Engaging with policy makers at a local and regional level (local authorities, Mayors, MPs)
- Generating proactive press and media stories for external audiences
- Organising stakeholder and press events;
- Understanding and identifying key political and policy issues and trends that impact Persimmon’s business;
- Ensuring Persimmon’s key messages are delivered to the right audiences in the correct manner. This is likely to include both briefing senior colleagues and in your own discussions with key stakeholders;
What experience, qualifications and skills are we looking for?
- Experience engaging with political and media stakeholders
- Previous experience in a public affairs, external affairs or corporate affairs role
- High level of attention to detail
- Ability to work on multiple tasks at any one time and meet competing deadlines
- Experience meeting with senior political stakeholders
- Proven record of generating positive, proactive press stories
- Experience working in a large organisation would be advantageous
