What is the role?
This is an exciting opportunity for a Technical Design Lead to join the Space4 Team. This role reports into the Operations Director.
The purpose of the role is to co-ordinate and convert Architects and Engineers information, into timber frame fabrication and assembly drawings (creating data compatible with the Space4 production facility, and drawings for site assembly purposes). As well as the panel data for the automated wall lines, CAD Technicians also generate fabrication drawings for off line ‘job-shop’ / spandrel panels, floor cassette drawings, joist layouts, cutting lists (plus any other details necessary for non-standard components e.g. steel beam fabrication drawings)
To assist the PE with controlling the Space4 internal design process, initially by reviewing site specific architectural information, identifying new / variant and repeating house types, and allocating an appropriate product code, during the design process they are involved in rationalising the information supplied by Space4’s structural engineers, and reporting any design changes, that may have cost implications, back to the commercial department.
The role will include:
Technical Design / Development / Support
- Working alongside the Commercial and Operations team to achieve the client’s requirements.
- Controlling the technical interface between Space4 and the client technical departments and/or architects.
- To programme, monitor and re-prioritise as necessary all CAD design conversion works in accordance with customer demand.
- Resolving any technical issues relating to the Space4 product or its association with other elements and develop standard details accordingly.
- Assisting technical resolution for any site remediation that may be required to ensure that it satisfies both legislation and the acceptance by the customer.
- Ensuring that the Space4 product offering satisfies all legislative requirements.
- Coordinating technical solutions for Space4, liaising with Architects, Structural Engineers, NHBC / BMTRADA / STA etc. as necessary.
- Facilitating technical support for the Construction Department or site activities.
- Providing technical support for manufacturing through careful consideration of new product or new standard detail product development.
- Providing end-use customer technical support as required.
Project Engineer / Pre Order / Design / Commercial
- Coordinating all received enquiry details & drawings to ensure timely response to customers.
- Supporting the Commercial team as necessary, providing appraisals of new projects and re-plans.
- Assisting in creating a detailed assessment of each job identifying all the necessary information required
- Allocating part numbers (Codes + Handing’s) by checking site setting out etc. to ensure correct house types are assigned to the relevant plots
- Issuing Structural calculations / NHBC Certificates to Clients (via E-mail or depositing on shared drive)
- Liaising with clients when information is incorrect and making sure the data is returned within a reasonable time frame to achieve requested delivery dates.
- To be able to Audit/Check designs created by the CAD Technicians, to ensure quality standards are met for both production and construction purposes, Making sure key features identified by the Structural Engineer have been incorporated in the finalised designs. Quality Control checking procedure.
- Assisting Technical Admin / Project Support in ensuring that File Readiness is achieved for the following week’s factory production.
- To report the cost implications of design / product changes, to assist in ensuring that any additional / unidentified costs are recovered.
- Review Handovers to make sure all data is correct before being sent to design.
What we need from you?
- High level of Education
- Attention to Detail
- Must be able to demonstrate experience of working accurately and consistently
- Have experience of using Auto-cad / Revit and a good understanding of working technical drawings. (HSBCad)
- Must be computer literate and have a high level of Excel and Word experience.
- Have the ability to understand, follow and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Be able to demonstrate telephone courtesy and be able to work in a dynamic environment.
- Be able to work independently, but able to request assistance when needed.
- Be able to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with all levels of staff and customers.
- Be flexible and organised to be able to cope with multiple tasks and priorities in a fast moving automotive-type environment and with a high commitment to quality.
