What is the role? 

This is a newly created role within our Group Internal Communications team to manage our new intranet channel, this digital platform in the organisation and lead on the production of internal newsletters. This will involve working with colleagues to develop, share, and leverage appropriate content. The role will also co-ordinate activities for our Persimmon Charitable Foundation.  

There is positive change taking place at Persimmon and internal communications is still a relatively new function, particularly digital, where you will be actively involved in building and running our new intranet. The role combines working with technology to extend our reach to the furthest corners of our organisation, while also developing great content that tells our story and supports our strategic objectives.  

You will be joining a small team, that delivers internal communications to a workforce of c5000 office and site-based employees. We are seeking to improve the communication to all our staff with more frequent engagement, where we can share the changes and improvements to our business and encourage involvement from all our employees. 

The role can be based from one of our network of 29 offices across the UK with occasional nationwide travel. 

The role will include: 

  • Work with colleagues to tell stories, develop, share, and leverage appropriate content. 
  • Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all channels and for different departments of the organisation. 
  • Measure, review, and adjust communications accordingly. 
  • Manage our new intranet channel as the new digital platform in the organisation developing current content and creating a clear roadmap for the future, including: Being our intranet expert on content, event and communications management including designing pages / new pages / templates as required, managing content owners and authors, assigning user rights and page permissions, overall design and navigation.
  • Continuing to drive usage of the intranet and its App.
  • Managing the governance, monitoring metrics to measure / boost success, responding to and managing feedback from employees.
  • Supporting community group owners in maintaining active communities and building new communities as required. 
  • Liaising with Group IT on technical issues related to implementation and upgrades. Handling common administrative tasks in the intranet software and/or collaborating with IT staff to resolve these tasks. 
  • Manage activities for our Persimmon Charitable Foundation to ensure a co-ordinated approach to our Group giving. 
  • Work with the Foundation chair and trustees to develop and implement a strategy. 
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with external charities and organisations that extend the foundation’s aims and objectives. 

What we need from you? 

  • Experience of working in a large and dispersed organisation.  
  • Coordinating with senior business-critical stakeholders on a regular basis.  
  • Highly organised and able to co-ordinate projects, teams, and activities with ease.
  • Strong leadership skills to coordinate and facilitate activities with colleagues. 
  • Experience of managing digital channels and particularly in an intranet/communications app preferably with understanding of reaching frontline audiences. 
  • Understanding of business strategies and organisational structures at the highest level. 
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with diplomacy. 
  • Experience collaborating closely with key stakeholders to understand their needs and involve them in planning and problem-solving. 
  • A creative eye and experience of working on highly visual content. 
  • Experience of working on common graphics/video platforms would be an advantage but not essential.
