Apprentice Customer Service Technician

What is the role?

Technicians often complete 7-day inspections, one month inspection and warranty work on a daily basis on new homes. All diaries are managed within the Customer Care Team by Co-ordinators.

Co-ordinators are always available to answer questions and queries along with the ordering of the materials required. Depending on the time of year will depend on how the diaries will look. Around June and December, we tend to put a pause on technician booking to put a focus on supporting site teams for half year and year end completions.

The role will include:

Year 1

During their apprenticeship the successful candidate will be mentored by one of our experienced Customer Service Technicians.

 Below are the kind of tasks that you will be assigned in the 1st year:

1)            Décor inspections

2)            Décor touch ups (paint & gloss)

3)            Pre paint preparation (sanding/removal of nails etc)

4)            Full decoration of walls

5)            Mastic sealant

6)            Minor joinery adjustments to internal doors

7)            Replacement of skirting boards

8)            Replacement of architraves

9)            Kitchen unit door adjustments and replacement

10)          Plaster patching

11)          Stain blocking and painting

12)          Inspection of loft insulation

13)          Localised tiling (one or two tiles)

14)          Grouting

15)          External mastic

16)          Mould inspections and cleaning

17)          Shrinkage

18)          Gate and fence adjustments (minor)

19)          Refitting of external vents

20)          Adjustments to gas and electric box

21)          Minor pointing if confident

22)          Ironmongery replacements

23)          Kitchen plinth fitting

24)          Bath panel adjustments

Year 2

Will include learning more complexed tasks as listed below. These generally will require two persons to completed, theses competencies will be taught on the job by an experienced Customer Service Technician: 

1)            External and Internal door renewal

2)            Door casing adjustments

3)            Major tile works

4)            Major grout works

5)            Rectification of creaking floors

6)            Rectification of creaking stairs

7)            Plaster works

8)            Adjustment to garage doors

9)            Cavity and insulation inspections

10)          Installation of weather strips to garage

11)          Garage plaster and pointing

12)          Tanking to the garage

13)          Extractor ducting connections

14)          Loft beam treatment

15)          Window and patio door adjustments

16)          Basic plumbing (W.C. removal, basin removal, shower enclosure fitting and removal)

17)          Full kitchen unit replacements

18)          Flooring re-stretches

19)          Canopy fitting and adjustments

This is a small insight to the more complexed tasks our technicians complete on a day-to-day basis. Training, guidance and support would always be on hand from an experienced Customer Service Technician, Site Managers and of course office staff and department Managers.

At Persimmon Homes we have an open-door policy which means should anyone not feel confident completing a task or require further guidance/ training we are always willing to offer further support. Some compulsory training with our sub-contractors/ suppliers will be required to improve knowledge on products and services, this also gives useful insight in to how their products work.
