We have an exciting opportunity for a Public Affairs Officer to join our team, reporting into the Senior External Communications Manager, you will play a key role in Principality’s Corporate Communications team supporting with stakeholder engagement plans, political monitoring, public affairs campaigns and strategic advocacy efforts and supporting the delivery of the Society’s Public Relations and Public Affairs strategy, aligned to the Corporate Communications strategy and key business priorities across the whole of the Society.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support the delivery of Principality’s Public Relations and Public Affairs strategy, ensuring alignment with the Society’s brand and corporate strategy.
  • Monitor and analyse policy developments in the Senedd, UK Parliament and relevant regulatory bodies, assessing their potential impact on Principality and its members.
  • Develop relationships with key political and industry stakeholders, including MSs, MPs, policy makers, think tanks, trade associations and regulators.
  • Coordinate responses to government consultations, select committee inquiries and industry policy discussions, ensuring Principality’s perspective is well presented.
  • Support the organisation of stakeholder engagement activities, including roundtables, policy briefings and parliamentary events.
  • Prepare briefing notes, policy summaries and position papers for the Society’s spokespeople and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the wider Corporate Communications team to ensure Principality’s policy messaging is integrated across media, PR and social channels.

What we need:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of the Welsh political landscape
  • Ability to analyse legislation, policy proposals and regulatory developments
  • Confident in stakeholder management
  • Highly organised with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strategic thinker, able to assess the broader political and regulatory landscape
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to prioritise and adapt to changing political dynamics

Previous experience

  • Experience in a public affairs, policy or lobbying role, ideally within financial services, housing or a regulated industry.
  • Demonstratable experience of working with the Senedd, with an understanding of the Welsh Government’s policy-making process.
  • Experience drafting public affairs briefings, consultation responses, or stakeholder engagement materials is also essential.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with political monitoring tools, including stakeholder maps.
  • Experience organising parliamentary or policy-focused events.
