At Principality Building Society, we are committed to helping our members and communities prosper. As we continue to evolve our data capabilities, we’re looking for a Data Governance Specialist to join our growing Data Governance Team – a key part of our data transformation journey.

As the Data Governance Specialist, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering governance practices across the organisation. You’ll work with business stakeholders, projects and change teams to ensure critical data is clearly defined, well-managed and used effectively. Your work will focus one or more key areas – data ownership, data definition, data quality and metadata analysis – supporting the Society’s broader strategy.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Collaborate with data owners, IT and change teams to define and document critical data assets.
  • Establish and run data quality procedures, monitor trends and support remediation activities.
  • Conduct data profiling to support business change and project delivery.
  • Manage metadata repositories to enhance data understanding and efficiency.
  • Provide expert guidance to stakeholders and projects teams on data governance best practices, aligned to policy and regulatory standards.
  • Generate and present data governance metrics and insights.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of data governance and management framework (e.g. DAMA or similar).
  • Experience with data quality platforms (e.g. Experian Aperture or equivalent)
  • Strong SQL or similar querying skills for data analysis profiling
  • Familiarity with metadata management or data lineage tools (e.g. Alation)
  • Familiarity with workflow/issue management tools such as Azure DevOps
  • Knowledge of risk management principles and frameworks
  • Familiarity with risk reporting tools or systems such as Magique
  • Comfortable working with a wide range of data types (e.g. customer, transactional, financial & digital).
  • Understanding of how data underpins reporting and analytics, ideally in a financial services context.

Key Competencies:

  • Analytical mindset – able to quickly understand complex datasets and business rules.
  • Excellent communication and consulting skills – able to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive and innovative approach to improving data governance and usage across the organisation.

Why Join Us:

  • Be part of a forward-thinking data team, contributing to an enterprise-wide data strategy.
  • Influence how data is governed, used and valued at one of the UK’s largest building societies.
  • Working in a supportive and collaborative environment where innovation is encouraged.
