Based at Ruskin Mill College, Nailsworth

The purpose of the role is to work therapeutically with specific or small groups of students based on assessments of the student’s support and developmental needs.

The purpose of this role is to deliver weekly direct (1:1), small group and individual interventions as identified in the EHC plan, including therapy in the craft and outdoor space. This will require you to plan individualised, functional, student-centered programs across a variety of contexts (session based, communities based, craft, land-based at our biodynamic farm, depending on the needs of the students). This will include formal assessment through observation and staff/parent/carer liaison.

Through effective management of your caseload, you will ensure that ECHP targets are met alongside the students’s needs. In doing so you will nurture solid working relationships with staff and students and be given the opportunity to facilitate meaningful change with hands on intervention and practice.

In this role you will advise and train college and residential staff on embedding OT into Ruskin Mill’s unique method of Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE) and the Steiner educational insights as interventions to meet the students’ sensory and self-regulation needs as identified in the EHC plan. Training and mentoring will be provided as will external supervision.

You will be working with children, young people and vulnerable adults with autistic spectrum disorders, learning disabilities and difficulties associated with developmental delay and, in collaboration with the other therapists, communicating findings to a diverse range of Ruskin Mill Trust staff and external bodies. This will include record keeping, data collection and analysis and will include the delivery of staff training. To validate and document student progress by being immersed in PSTE and the Steiner Curriculum utilising their expertise in sensory profiles and sensory integration.

In order to be successful in this role you will:
• Qualified to degree level in Occupational Therapy
• Registered with professional therapeutic body such as HCPC
• Qualified in Sensory Integration is highly desired, however, not essential.
• Experience of working with students who have special education needs/learning difficulties and/or learning disabilities, sensory integration and have a knowledge of specialist education.
• A flexible and professional approach is required
• Be able to demonstrate strong communication and time management skills

The successful applicant will take part in an interactive induction to experience the crafts within the curriculum and experience the student journey. You would also be provided with financial support toward the cost of clinical supervisions.
