An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team within Central Area Services. Currently supporting over 70 autistic adults within a variety of settings across Forth Valley, we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic practitioner to our Gartinny service.

Gartinny Nurseries is a Clackmannanshire vocational based day service, which has a focus on horticulture therapy and the benefits that being outdoors and surrounded by nature can bring to individuals. Gartinny Nurseries is an operational garden centre, which is a key feature of the local community. The team at Gartinny nurseries have strong partnerships with local voluntary groups and have an active role in keeping their local community floral and beautiful.

Whilst prior experience of horticulture and gardening is desirable, this is not essential as we have an excellent in-house mentor with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Scottish Autism will supply all relevant training.

“I feel supported by my line manager in my role” Autism Practitioner.

As an Autism Practitioner, experience of working within social care is desirable but not essential as we are seeking to appoint people who are willing to learn, develop into the role and who share our organisational values: Collaboration; Compassion; Change Makers; Contribution.

New colleagues must be keen to learn and develop into the role. We will support you to do this by offering outstanding training and we are continuously improving to ensure all our Autism Practitioners are supported and have the skills to deliver a quality service. This post is also a good opportunity for those with a generic support worker experience to specialise.

Autism Practitioners will work with other team members to:

  • Develop and work to personalised support plans
  • Building positive relationships with the supported individual.
  • Work in partnership with the supported individual, their family, health professionals.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure the supported individual’s life goals and aspirations are at the centre of their support.

On a day-to-day basis, Autism Practitioners enable supported individuals.

  • To take part in their chosen activities including walks in the community, various horticultural and woodwork.
  • To adapt tasks and activities to best utilise individual talents and skill sets
  • Required support may include personal care, promoting independence and active citizenship, community inclusion,
  • You can expect to be out in the great outdoors.

As part of your role, you will be required to undertake shift work, including weekends, evenings and so flexibility towards working hours is key.

We encourage and welcome applications from people with lived experience of autism.

“I love my workplace; the organisation values are displayed on the walls which promotes a positive working environment.” Staff member.
