Junior Designer - Part Time 24 Months Fixed Term Contract

An exciting opportunity has become available at Warwick Students’ Union.

We are looking to recruit a key staff member who can provide graphic design support for the Students’ Union for a diverse range of services across digital and print media.

What’s on offer:

Salary: From £12,672 to £14,174 (pro rata of £23,127 - £25,868) per annum, plus excellent benefits including holidays and contributory pension scheme

Hours: Part time hours – 20 per week with flexibility how these are worked.

Location: We offer hybrid working - with a mixture of working onsite and from home.

 Closing Date: 11th November 2024

 Interview: W/C 25th November 2024

You will provide graphic design support for the Communications and Marketing team using the Adobe CC packages (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat) and create new and update existing artwork for a variety of materials for print and online – posters, adverts, flyers, web and social banners.

Who you are?

This fantastic opportunity requires someone who is dynamic, has a flexible and approachable manner and is self-motivated.

You must have experience of working in a design role and possess a good quality graphic design portfolio. You must be experienced in Adobe CC packages and hold a degree or equivalent professional qualification in Graphic Design.

JOB DESCRIPTION 


JOB TITLE:                                 Junior Designer         

RESPONSIBLE TO:                   Graphic Designer  

RESPONSIBLE FOR:                  None      

MAIN PURPOSE FOR JOB: To provide graphic design support across the Students’ Union, creating promotional assets for a diverse range of services across digital and print media. 

WORKS CLOSELY WITH: Communications and Marketing team, Student Officers, colleagues around the SU. 

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • To provide graphic design support for the Communications and Marketing team using the Adobe CC packages (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, & Acrobat). 
  • To create new and update existing artwork for a variety of materials for print and online i.e. posters, adverts, flyers, web and social banners.
  • Receive briefs from our Graphic Designer and colleagues in the C&M team.
  • Create design concepts.
  • Respond to feedback on drafts, making or challenging suggested changes.
  • Work within brand guidelines of the SU and its constituent services where appropriate.
  • To manage workload in agreement with line manager.
  • Assist the Business Development Manager with creating assets to support with media sales activity.
  • Keep our Graphic Designer updated on progress with design tasks.
  • To engage in your ongoing development by attending regular team meetings and 1-2-1s with your line manager.
  • Maintain professional knowledge of design industry, and keep up-to-date with youth design trends.
  • To undertake all administrative work in relation to the role as necessary.
  • To complete additional tasks that may from time to time be reasonably required by your line manager.
  • To commit to reducing the SU’s environmental impact and promote environmental and ethical good practice.
  • The above to be conducted with regard to the organisations’ policies and practice on Equal  Opportunities, Health & Safety, Customer Care , Copyright , Data Protection, Environmental Policy and other legislation, and Staff Development.

PERSON SPECIFICATION 
 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Experience of working in a design role 
  • A good quality graphic design portfolio
  • Degree or equivalent in Graphic Design, or a similar professional qualification
  • Experienced in Adobe CC packages (in particular InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, & Acrobat)
  • Must be creative and flexible
  • Able to accept critical feedback or rejection of ideas
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Must be able to process and interpret information in a timely manner
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Good administration and organisational skills 
  • Able to work to deadlines
