The Opportunity
With the recent appointment of a VAT Partner to lead the provision of VAT and indirect tax services to clients in the Midlands Southwest Region, an opportunity has arisen to join our VAT team in the region. This role is central to the continued growth of the business, providing day‑to‑day leadership of client delivery, oversight of multiple concurrent engagements, managing and supporting the development of junior team members, locally in the Midlands Southwest region and nationally as required.
This is a delivery‑led, commercially focused role, offering exposure to complex, high‑value client work across VAT advisory engagements, with a clear pathway for progression.
The Role
The Manager will take day‑to‑day responsibility for the delivery of multiple client engagements, acting as the primary point of contact for clients and ensuring work is delivered to a consistently high technical and professional standard. The role is central to supporting the continued growth of the team.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and deliver a broad range of VAT advisory engagements, including:
- VAT advisory services focussed on corporate clients.
- Providing VAT support on corporate finance and restructuring transactions.
- VAT registrations and compliance setup and management.
- Preparing and supporting clients through HMRC enquiries and reviews.
- Supporting clients with disclosures and liaising with HMRC on their behalf.
- Delivering VAT process and control reviews, aligned to HMRC’s relevant Guidelines for Compliance.
- Identifying opportunities for clients and managing coordination of go-to-market activities.
- Managed projects end-to-end, from scoping and planning through to delivery, implementation and follow-on support.
- Act as day-to-day lead on assigned client relationships, maintaining strong communication and managing expectations.
- Support proposal preparation, fee discussions and budgeting; monitor recoveries and coordinate billing on managed engagements.
- Review technical work, manage workloads, and support the development of Assistant Managers and junior team members.
- Contribute to the use and development of Crowe’s technology capabilities and collaborate closely with wider tax teams.
- Keep up to date with legislative and regulatory development.
Skills & Experience
- Typically, 5+ years’ experience in UK VAT.
- Strong technical knowledge across core VAT disciplines, with experience leading client engagements.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
- Experience reviewing work and supervising junior staff.
- Commercially aware, with experience managing fees, budgets and client relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Consultancy or professional services background preferred.
