Building on our continued success, we are looking for an experienced professional to join our team as a Train Control Engineer based in Sacramento

Working as part of the integrated High-Speed Rail Systems Engineering project team, providing technical specialist support and input for system performance specification, costing, system compliance and approval, construction, acceptance, maintenance and operation of train control systems and equipment.

Key Accountabilities

You'll work as part of the integrated High-Speed Rail Systems Engineering project team to deliver a high-speed rail system which meets the business requirements established by the client, while interpreting business requirements and develop performance requirements for the Rail Systems specification in compliance with statute, system design, national and international standards and best industry practice.

  • Provide advice and guidance on development within the Rail Systems industry so that systems specification remains at the forefront of industry in terms of safety, technology and performance.
  • Provide specialist technical guidance and support to the system integration and interfaces between rail systems and other works.
  • Provide technical support to others within the High-Speed Rail Systems project team and to others within the wider project team, to ensure that specialist advice is available as required.
  • Establish technical content for train control system requirements and standards for the project.
  • Update Design Criteria Manual chapters relating to train control for incorporation into future contracts.
  • Review, as directed, the overall safety, performance and compatibility of project designs and provide structured feedback and comment where necessary.
  • Participate in, or lead, technical investigations and audits into systems and equipment failure, or malfunction, as directed.
  • As required participate in activities required for the acceptance of products to deliver the Rail Systems performance requirements.
  • Monitor contractual commitments to check that work is being performed in accordance with specifications, drawings and terms of contract.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Strong background in train control systems – ideally within a railway environment.
  • Strong railway system background with knowledge and understanding of the interfaces between different elements that make up a high-speed railway.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Plan and deliver appropriate systems to understand future demand, emerging technologies and areas for improvement.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, industry and company standards.
  • Relevant professional qualifications.

Desirable

  • International rail system design and consultation experienced
  • PE Qualified/Chartered Engineer
  • Membership of a professional body
  • High Speed Rail experience.
