About the opportunity:

Building on our continued success and growth, we are currently hiring for an experienced professional to join our team as an Associate Director – Advisory & Strategic Planning based in Sydney.

The successful candidate will play a lead role in the development and delivery of Advisory & Strategic Planning projects within the regional business, through supporting the State Managers in New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria. The role will complement other established NRC sectors and service lines, working collaboratively with the broader team to win and deliver assignments.

The key focus areas for the Advisory & Strategic Planning service lines include the following:

Advisory:

  • Auditing, due diligence and independent technical reviews across a range of projects and/or disciplines.
  • Benchmarking studies on client's railways against other owner/operators.
  • Policy, Standards and procedures development and advice.
  • Transformation and change management programs to improve efficiency and/or reduce cost.
  • Procurement advice relating to planned procurements and tendering processes.
  • Rail franchising, performance regimes and O&M concession advice.

Strategic Planning

  • Business Case development and/or management.
  • Project feasibility, planning and development.
  • Route utilisation strategies and capacity enhancements.

You will be involved in developing the Advisory & Strategic Planning service line by providing expert technical advice, people leadership and service line capability by identifying the right resources to deliver business targets. You will have the opportunity to act as a project manager on consultancy contracts and manage, or contribute to the completion of consultancy contracts, delivering projects on time and to budget and quality.

Experience & Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Qualified to at least a degree level (or equivalent for the service area) within a relevant area.
  • Significant and demonstrable expertise and experience with broad experience across a variety of railway project lifecycle development and railway operational aspects.
  • Significant proven experience in the Rail industry.
  • Ability to relate to other people with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly motivated self-starter.
  • Well-developed skills in problem solving and written/verbal communication, collaborative working and time/priority management.
  • Strong commercial focus with regards to contract and project management.
  • Ability to grow business and build/develop teams in a senior consultancy or professional advisory role.

Desirable:

  • Membership of relevant professional body.
  • Understanding of Australian market with client relationships in Transport/Rail sector.
