Building on our continued success, we are looking for an experienced professional to join our team in Sacramento as a Radio Communications Expert

The successful candidate will work in the Rail and Operations Delivery Branch of the High-Speed Rail Authority’s Office of Program Delivery & within the Rail Engineering team.

This role requires a subject matter expert in radio and wireless communication systems who will help lead the development of the wireless networks required to be deployed on the California High-Speed Rail Project. The person appointed to this role will help with the development and design of the projects wireless communications strategy including the deployment of a private 5G based network to support safety critical and performance applications applicable to the railroad as well as ensuring the California Emergency Services Radio network coverage is expanded to cover all railroad infrastructure.

This role will also be responsible for engaging and working with the main cellular providers in the USA to ensure cellular coverage is expanded so that passengers on our high-speed trainsets can enjoy high-speed cellular connectivity once trains start operational service.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for ensuring the first deployment of FRMCS in the USA
  • Working with cellular operators to ensure coverage to passengers throughout the high-speed network
  • Engaging with contractors design teams to ensure the wireless systems being designed meet the requirements of the project.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Extensive cellular industry experience within the USA
  • Extensive knowledge of designing radio access networks, 4G/LTE/5G networks and two-way private radio systems
  • Demonstrable knowledge of working on large scale projects
  • Demonstrable knowledge of all 3GPP, ITU-T and USA mobile network standards

Desirable

  • Railroad experience, in particular with deployment of radio/wireless systems
  • California PE license
