About the opportunities

NRC Australia is currently hiring Project Engineers at various levels with proven experience in commissioning digital and/or conventional signalling projects to join our growing team in Sydney, working on the transformative Digital Systems Program with our client Transport for NSW.

Depending on your experience, you’ll play a key role in either leading or supporting the development, delivery, and acceptance of a diverse portfolio of engineering systems during the commissioning phase. As part of the commissioning team, you will contribute to the delivery of management plans, assurance documentation, site-specific procedures, and certification required to hand over the system for revenue service.

You’ll collaborate closely with the Technical Engineering Lead and Commissioning Manager to ensure all sub-systems including Trackside, Traffic Management System (TMS), Fixed Telecommunications Network (FTN), Digital Train Radio System (DTRS), Onboard systems, Automatic Train Operation (ATO), and legacy infrastructure are fully prepared for Entry into Service in accordance with NSW procedures and standards.

What you will be involved in:

  • Deliver the requirements of the Digital Systems Program in line with client and business needs.
  • Lead or support the Commissioning workstream, owning functional deliverables and interfaces to meet key milestones.
  • Provide technical guidance for the Commissioning package and ensure integration across all sub-systems.
  • Interpret technical requirements to ensure compliance with design, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Implement operational specifications, policies, and procedures for safe and efficient commissioning.
  • Ensure all commissioning deliverables meet quality standards and timelines.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver an integrated solution aligned with client expectations.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of NSW standards and procedures for inspection, testing, and commissioning of new or modified signalling systems.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following sub-systems ETCS, TMS, FTN, DTRS, ATO, Onboard.
  • Proven experience commissioning digital and/or conventional signalling projects.
  • Extensive engineering background in signalling projects.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering rail projects on time.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when engaging with stakeholders across disciplines.
  • Well-developed report writing skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines under pressure.

Desirable:

  • Progress toward chartered or incorporated engineering status.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body.
  • Experience in the development and entry into service phase of new rail infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with the Australian rail industry.
