About the role

NRC Australia is seeking a skilled Track and Civil Engineering Consultant with proven experience in rail infrastructure projects to join our growing advisory team in Melbourne.

As a Track and Civil Engineering Consultant, you will provide expert advice and strategic guidance to clients on the planning, design, and optimisation of rail track and civil infrastructure. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and client stakeholders to deliver high-value solutions that meet safety, quality, and performance standards.

What you’ll be involved in

Depending on your level and experience, you may:

  • Lead or support the development of rail infrastructure asset management strategies, focusing on track and civil systems, for client organisations.
  • Conduct independent audits, technical reviews, and due diligence assessments of track geometry, drainage, earthworks, and structural components.
  • Advise clients on the development and implementation of engineering standards, maintenance frameworks, and training programs for track and civil assets.
  • Recommend and help implement intelligent asset management systems to monitor track condition, structural integrity, and lifecycle performance.
  • Provide expert analysis on infrastructure reliability, lifecycle cost modelling, and risk assessment for rail corridors, bridges, culverts, and other civil assets.
  • Facilitate workshops, knowledge transfer sessions, and best practice sharing with client teams and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, business cases, and recommendations to senior client stakeholders and executive leadership.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Significant experience and knowledge of the rail industry and infrastructure assets in a track and civil capacity.
  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area or extensive experience.
  • Proficient in building positive relationships with senior stakeholders and technical subject matter experts.
  • Strong IT proficiency – including MS Office applications and developed report writing skills.
  • Local experience in the Victoria railway market.

Desirable:

  • Experience of using Enterprise Asset Management Systems (e.g. Ellipse, Maximo) in the rail sector is an advantage.
  • Experience in engineering management in a safety critical industry.
  • Asset Management Qualifications.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Prior consulting or advisory experience in the rail sector.
