What is the role?
We are recruiting for an Assistant Accountant to join our busy Finance team. This will be a varied role which will require the role holder to carry out purchase ledger duties and assist with accounts tasks. This role reports into the Finance Manager.
The role will include:
- Assisting in all aspects of financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting of the Wessex Persimmon Homes business ensuring that all Group reporting deadlines are met
- Provide financial assistance/decision making support to the local company senior management team
- Develop and maintain financial policies and adhere to Group financial procedures ensuring consistent, accurate and robust accounting information produced
- Ensure the smooth running of the Purchase Ledger, Subcontract Ledger, Sales Ledger and Cashbook functions
- Assistance in preparation of all VAT and SDLT/LBTT payments made in connection with land purchases and sales
Key Job Tasks
- Build good inter-department relationships through regular interaction with the other departments/department heads to ensure all current key issues are addressed thoroughly and all potential costs/liabilities are fully understood by all
- Communicate clearly and timely with other departments and department heads to ensure all deadlines are met and all information presented in correct Group formats
- Assist in the preparation of bi-monthly Management Accounts and supporting analysis & narrative
- Assist in the preparation of monthly P&L and cash flow operating forecasts and land expenditure forecasts
- Assist in the preparation of the bi-annual budget and annual 5 Year Business Plan model
- Responsibility for the monthly VAT return reporting and consideration of any potential VAT issues on upcoming land transactions
- Assist in the preparation of year-end financial reporting and tax year-end reporting including P11d reporting
- Daily supervision of cashier, accounts payable purchase ledger and sub-contract ledger functions & the local weekly payroll function
- Ensure the Group financial policies and procedures are correctly being followed throughout the business
- Implement any new accounting systems and/or new Group procedures as needed by the business
- Any ad-hoc projects
What we need from you?
- Experience in a similar accounting role
- Fully AAT Qualified / Part Qualified Accountant (ACA or CIMA) ideally with some previous experience in a Management Accountant role
- Previous experience in the construction industry and dealing with subcontractors would be an advantage but not essential
- Experience of using Microsoft applications especially Excel
- Must be organised, diligent and able to work under pressure
- Ability to manage current and upcoming future workloads so as to work effectively and accurately on multiple tasks in a fast-paced FTSE 100 PLC environment – time management and planning skills very important
