Operations Engineer II (Secondment Opportunity)

September to December 2026

As part of the transition to our newly formed IT Operations team, we are seeking an experienced Operations Engineer II on a fixed-term secondment basis until 31 December 2026.

This role will play an important part in maintaining service stability during a period of organisational change, providing operational support across a number of business-critical platforms while helping the team build capability, improve processes, retain key knowledge and support the successful establishment of the new IT Operations team.

Working closely with Operations Engineers, suppliers, development teams and business stakeholders, you'll help ensure the continued delivery of critical services including CARES, payment services, DataBridge and workload automation platforms.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide operational support for business-critical platforms, including mainframe hosting our main banking platform, payment services, DataBridge and workload automation solutions.
  • Perform daily operational monitoring, health checks and service validation activities.
  • Support and deliver OpCon scheduling, automation and operational improvement activities, including implementation of new workloads, process improvements and automation opportunities.
  • Manage incidents, service requests and operational REQ activities, ensuring timely resolution and effective stakeholder communication.
  • Support the delivery of releases, planned out-of-hours implementations and production changes, ensuring operational readiness and successful service outcomes.
  • Support planned out-of-hours implementation activities where required.
  • Capture and document operational procedures, knowledge articles and support documentation.
  • Lead knowledge transfer activities across DataBridge, the mainframe, and associated operational services, helping build capability within the newly formed IT Operations team.
  • Identify, design and implement opportunities to automate manual operational processes, checks and support activities, reducing operational risk and improving efficiency.
  • Support the documentation and readiness of Year End operational processes.
  • Develop standard ServiceNow SSP request templates to improve the efficiency of service delivery between Development and Operations teams.
  • Work with colleagues to improve operational processes, reduce manual effort and increase service resilience.
  • Support DataBridge operational activities and contribute to improvements in service reliability and supportability.

What you'll bring

  • Strong experience working within an IT Operations, Production Support or Service Operations environment.
  • Strong incident management and service restoration skills.
  • Experience supporting critical business applications and services.
  • Practical experience of Mainframe operational processes, CARES support and associated production services.
  • Strong knowledge of workload automation and job scheduling platforms, ideally OpCon, including implementation, automation and operational change activities.
  • Experience supporting complex operational changes, releases and planned out-of-hours implementations.
  • Experience identifying and delivering operational improvements and automation opportunities.
  • Strong documentation, process mapping and knowledge management skills.
  • Ability to coach and share knowledge with colleagues to help build capability across the wider Operations team.
  • Excellent organisational and stakeholder management skills.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to support colleagues through a period of transition.

  • Planned out-of-hours implementation and release activities will be expected as part of the role.
  • The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting CARES releases, Mainframe and DataBridge knowledge transfer, OpCon improvements, DataBridge support, documentation, automation initiatives whilst helping establish a resilient and sustainable IT Operations capability.
