The Students’ Union is the focal point of campus life and we have exciting opportunities for University of Warwick students to join our team!

What’s on offer:

Hourly Rate: £12.21 plus holiday pay calculated at 15.55% (equivalent of 35 days paid leave per year)

Duration: Fixed Term Contract starting in Term 3 2025 and working throughout the academic year 2025/2026 until 4th July 2026 (subject to a 6-month probationary period)

Hours: You will be expected to work an average of 2 shifts a week (an average of 10-12 hours a week) throughout term time; you must be available to work 8 out of the 10 Wednesday nights (shifts usually 18:30-02:15) throughout terms 1, and term 2, and then usually a Friday or Saturday night (shifts usually 21:30-02:15). We cannot guarantee these hours.

Location: Warwick Students’ Union, Coventry.

What’s the role?
The SU runs a variety of outlets which are dedicated to students.  Working in either one or more of our outlets as a Bars Assistant, this role is focused on delivering great customer service. You will be required to provide a high standard of service to customers, serve food and/or drinks, be accurate in handing monetary transactions and maintain a safe clean working environment. Experience of working in a hospitality environment would be beneficial but not essential.

Dirty Duck
A modern twist on the traditional, serving real value-for-money food and a variety of locally sourced products, real ales, wines, premium beers and spirits.  The key message is real ale-real food -real people- real welcome with a focus on great customer care.

Venue and Terrace Bar
The Copper Rooms is our dedicated events, club nights and live music venue and the Terrace Bar with its popular weekly schedule of killer DJ’s and delicious cocktails.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Bars Assistant         

RESPONSIBLE TO: Team Leaders, Deputy Outlet Manager and Management Team and through them, to Food and Beverage Manager, Head of Strategic Operations, Operations Director, Chief Executive and Board of Trustees           

RESPONSIBLE FOR: None

MAIN PURPOSE FOR JOB: To provide a high standard of service to customers, serving food and drink and maintaining a safe, clean working environment

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serving food and drink to our customers
  • Operating tills, taking cash and giving change.
  • To serve customers in a friendly and helpful manner, according to organisational policy on customer care
  • Maintaining adequate stocks at licensed bars, including transporting the stocks as required.
  • Keeping of records when necessary.
  • To adhere to organisational policy on Health, Safety and Hygiene, including Fire Regulations
  • Implementation and furthering of Company Policy including its Equal Opportunities policy, Customer care and Health and Safety
  • Clearing and cleaning tables as necessary.
  • Washing up and cleaning of cutlery and glassware.
  • General domestic duties including cleaning of all licensed bar areas, service areas and bar equipment.
  • Observance of the conditions of the Licensing Magistrates.
  • Any other, in line with the job description that may from time to time reasonably required by the organisation
  • To commit to reducing the SU’s environmental impact and promote environmental good practice.

EXPECTED STANDARDS

  • To work within all expected hygiene and operational regulations at all times.
