About the Role

NRC supports multiple clients in and around the Northeast Corridor from our strategic locations in Washington DC, New York City, and Boston, as well as West Coast clients from our offices in California.

Our efforts support exciting projects that aim to transform public transit across the country, connecting communities and reducing environmental impact associated with transportation.

Building on our continued success, we are looking for an experienced rail professional to join our team as Managing Consultant, Operations in our New York City location.

This role will see you support on the delivery of transit operations advisory services in a multifaceted consultancy environment, helping to grow our presence on the East Coast and North America as a whole.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide support where necessary to NRC’s capability in providing consultant services related to all aspects of railway and transit operations including service planning, rules and regulations, operational control, incident management, service recovery, and effective delivery of engineering work on operating railroads.
  • Identify, sustain, and facilitate technical resources in operations to provide the necessary consultant skills and resources to deliver NRC’s services in North America, drawing from employees in NRC, Network Rail, and external partners.  
  • Provide support as a Subject Matter Expert to the Transit Operational discipline on consultant projects at the pre-proposal and proposal stages, including supporting the development of winning strategies, identification of project teams, and development of technical content for those proposals.
  • Participate and guide project teams in delivering rail service plans that account for performance improvement and operational risk management.
  • Maintain and continually develop an industry network of people and potential projects for the NRC North American business development pipeline.
  • Undertake all activities in a safe environment and in accordance with NRC operating procedures.
  • Complete projects on time and to budget achieving or exceeding projected cash flow.
  • Build strong client relationships and receive strong client satisfaction ratings.

Skills & Qualifications:

Essential

  • Relevant years’ experience in managing and delivering rail/transit operations, route utilization strategies, and regulatory compliance
  • Degree educated (preferably in railway operations) or demonstrate equivalent experience.
  • Experience in managing and delivering railway operations including producing standards and procedures, asset management and maintenance interfaces, operational planning for infrastructure demands, service recovery and resilience.
  • Knowledge and/or awareness of US transit operations and associated regulatory organizations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent critical thinking, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work across a multidisciplinary team and establish relationships at all levels.
  • Ability to track record of meeting deadlines and working well under pressure.
  • Strong commercial focus regarding business development and contract management

Desirable

  • Experience as a consultant in transportation
  • Experience monitoring expenses and adhering to project budgets.
  • Experience working for or with both public and private organizations.
