About the Role
NRC Australia is seeking an experienced Asset Management and Maintenance professional to join our Brisbane team as a Principal Consultant. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong track record in rail infrastructure projects, with expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: Signalling Maintenance, Electrification & Plant, Track and Civil, Structures, or Telecommunications.
Safety is at the heart of everything we do at NRC. In this role, you will champion safety in all aspects of asset management and maintenance, ensuring that solutions meet or exceed industry safety standards and regulatory requirements. You will work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and with client stakeholders to deliver high-quality, compliant, and cost-effective asset management and maintenance solutions.
Key Accountabilities (Supportive Role)
- Support operational and maintenance needs analysis, ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with safety legislation, industry best practice, and NRC’s safety management systems.
- Assist in the development, review, and implementation of asset management and maintenance system requirements, with a focus on delivering safe, reliable, and compliant rail infrastructure solutions.
- Contribute to the creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of standards, procedures, and training materials, helping to embed a strong safety culture and ensuring all staff are aware of their safety responsibilities.
- Participate in verification, validation, and testing activities, supporting full compliance with safety, quality, and project requirements.
- Provide technical support for engineering activities throughout the asset lifecycle, helping to identify and mitigate safety risks.
- Offer technical input to bid and project teams, ensuring safety considerations are integrated into tenders and project delivery.
- Help ensure technical requirements are clearly understood, communicated, and implemented to meet client and safety expectations.
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of high-quality, timely reports and documentation, supporting compliance with NRC and client safety and quality assurance processes.
- Support effective stakeholder engagement, both internally and externally, to contribute to project outcomes, continuous improvement, and a culture of safety.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- Substantial experience in the rail industry, with a focus on asset management and maintenance of railway infrastructure assets.
- Demonstrated experience in applying safety management principles within the rail industry or other safety-critical environments.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering or technical discipline, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with a proven ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a track record of translating client needs into practical, value-adding solutions.
- Proven ability to identify, assess, and manage safety risks in asset management and maintenance activities.
- Experience with Enterprise Asset Management Systems (e.g., Ellipse, Maximo, SAP) in the rail sector is highly regarded.
Desirable:
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., Engineers Australia, IAM).
- Experience in engineering management within a safety-critical industry.
- Asset Management qualifications (e.g., IAM Certificate/Diploma).
- Experience in developing and delivering safety-related training or communications.
