Our organisation support people living with disabilities and long-term health conditions to lead good lives and achieve what matters most to them. Every year, our health and wellbeing team supports 1000s of people across Scotland, and our Supported Living teams work alongside just under 100 people in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife. They promote citizenship and inclusion and support people to live in their own homes, in their local community.

This new post will form part of the management team and work closely with the Chief Executive and Director of Resources to plan and deliver the Thistle Strategy.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing leadership, strategic direction and overall accountability for person-centred activities and a strength-based approach, ensuring continuous improvement and delivery against quality standards.
  • Ensuring managers are accountable for their own and their teams’ objectives
  • Representing Thistle with a range of stakeholders internally and externally and key contact for contracting organisations.
  • Overseeing operational management targets particularly in relation to statutory compliance

You should have both operational and strategic management experience within the health and/or social care sector and professionally qualified to SCQF level 10 or above in a relevant health/ social care qualification and hold appropriate leadership and management qualifications or demonstrate equivalent learning.

I have a variety interests which include football, politics (left wing/independence) and current affairs. I also want to build on my daily living skills with being in my new home when able and fit to do so - on certain days I can be very lethargic and unable to do so. I enjoy spending time with my family, socialising with friends, etc. It would be ideal for me to start doing other activities with my support hrs and the hope is to embrace what life has to offer me. We are looking for a female Personal Assistant for a professional female who suffered a spinal cord injury in 2020 and who is continuing to adjust to life with tetraplegia.

Prior to the accident she was a rock-climbing athlete and spent much of her time actively outdoors in the European mountains (skiing, climbing, cycling, and walking) and is now understandably coming to terms with this life changing outcome. She continues to work in her profession and is striving to regain an active life with various outdoor pursuits.

The successful Personal Assistant will be conscientious and reliable, presentable and have good personal hygiene. You should be proficient in English. You will have authentic empathy and be able to anticipate and tactfully support your client on days where she is finding it more difficult to cope. You will be able to forward plan and have good problem solving skills.

You should recognise the value of your input and the positive impact it will have.

You will be prepared to travel abroad on occasions and sleep over when required.

You will need to be able to drive, cycle and swim. Living locally and having a degree of flexibility will be advantageous.

Flexibility is important plus the ability to work well in a small, friendly team. A person-centred approach is key and ongoing training will be provided.

Musical and creative interests are helpful along with a willingness to learn about simple therapeutic approaches. Good attention to detail is also vital for this role.

Two part time posts available. 25 hours per week and 16 hours per week. Applications are welcome for both posts.
